Tinker Swiss Cottage April 2016 Investigation

The Tinker Swiss Cottage is a historic place, museum, and park in Rockford, Illinois, USA. It was built as a personal residence by Robert Hall Tinker in the1860s. It is now a popular destination for school trips and wedding receptions.

Robert Hall Tinker was born in Honolulu to missionary Reuben Tinker (1799–1854) and his wife Mary Throop Wood (1809–1895) in 1836. Tinker moved to Rockford in 1856, where he was employed as an accountant by Mary Dorr Manny, the wealthy widow of John H. Manny of the Manny reaper works. Tinker traveled Europe in 1862 and was greatly impressed by the estates and gardens he had seen there. On his return to Rockford, Tinker built himself a 20-room Swiss-style cottage on a limestone bluff overlooking the Kent Creek and the home of Mary Manny. In 1870 Robert and Mary were married, becoming Rockford 's most influential couple. Tinker was mayor of Rockford in 1875 and a founding member of the Rockford Park District.

Upon the death of the Tinkers, the cottage was left to the Rockford Park District. The home was listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) on December 27, 1972.

Equipment setup: Teams were Jim and Stan in the Carriage House, Marge and Michael in the basement of the Main house, Katherine in the Red Room on the second floor of the Main House and Dale in the Barn. I set up a static IR camera to videotape all the sessions, placed a REM Epod on the table in the barn, used a Melmeter with proximity probe, EM Pumps and the SLS X-Cam.

Experiments performed: EVP, Ghost Box, Ovilus X and Dowsing Rod sessions were conducted in the Red Room, downstairs Canning Room, Carriage House, the Barn and other rooms in the main house. I also employed the SLS X-Cam in all sessions in the Barn.

Personal experiences:

Stan Suho: This was another public demonstration set up by Kathi. These are always very well attended. This time there were over 40 people split up into 4 groups. I was assigned to the carriage house along with Jim. Given that we were shorthanded and short on time, very little setup was attempted. I would give a demonstration on the IR Camera and the monitoring system along with the Audacity Audio recording laptop. Jim had a camera setup and would give a demonstration on EVP.

Right on time the groups would start making their rounds. Kathi's always very punctual. The four groups made their way through the various stations and were given short talks and demos. Jim and I answered several questions and a good time was had by all. Because I made no recordings I have nothing to report except for several group pictures.

Katherine Meagher: We have investigated this beautiful cottage a few times now and I have come to a conclusion at this point. I have been in three locations so far, with GRS. It seems to me that spirit that is attached to this dwelling like to communicate in groups. I use dowsing rods for first response to speak with the departed.

The first place I investigated was the carriage house when we communicating with the Tinker wives.

The next time was in the basement when there might have been a child hiding with almost no evidence but in other station investigators were getting a lot of activity.

This time I was on the second floor with no evidence but the group of spirit was in the basement at the other station our group was manning.

When I don’t receive much for spirit that is at the location I reach into the crowds and look for attachments. In every group that comes through someone always has a spirit with them. What is even more curious to me is that there are other individuals that use dowsing rods with-in GRS and they come up with the same people with the same attachments.

I am skeptical about most of the equipment we use to prove spirit is with us yet, when revisiting the same place periodically you can speculate and form hypothesis on evidence of spirit among us.

I am looking forward to coming again and see what the changes might be and if the same conclusion is drawn in the investigation of the paranormal.

Jim Piscopo: We arrived about 6:30 pm and started setting up our equipment ta our assigned stations. Stan and I were in the carriage house. I set up my Sony camcorder with IR lights in the office area where we were conducting the EVP sessions for the groups. I was also using a Melmeter.

We did EVPs with the first three groups without any responses. When the 4th group came in we started the session and heard a growl. I asked if anyone else heard it and they all did. I asked if it was a stomach growl and they all said no. After a few minutes it was heard again but not as loud. At this time everyone started feeling cold. I got up from where I was sitting and walked around the room taking temperature readings. The temperature dropped from 69 to 67 degrees. I was taking the temperature behind on of the girls in the group when she said she was cold and felt something rubbing her back. She started to panic and said she could not breathe. I told Stan to turn on the lights and she was taken out of the room.

After reviewing the footage I did not hear the growling which was heard by all of us and nothing unusual was see during the breathing attack.

Marge Sucha: We arrived at the location around 6:00 p.m.  It was cloudy and had been raining on and off that day.

This was a public investigation hosted by Kathi Kresol, from Haunted Rockford Paranormal.

Our group broke off into four groups with each group taking a location on the property.  I was teamed up with Mike Wright.  Mike & I had the basement in the cottage.   We spent a majority of our time in the laundry room.  We used Spirit box SB-7 & SB-11 spirit box, FLIR, & Dowsing Rods.

We used a spirit box and dowsing rods together.   I personally had never used both together but it seemed to work great at this location.    Someone in the second group had a relative attached to them.  We asked if he could make the dowsing rods point to the person he was there with.  The rods answered no.  This was a first for me.   Later a gentleman came up to me and said he was sure it was his father but he didn't not feel comfortable being pointed out.

We found that both Mrs. Tinkers were there.   We also had someone identify themselves as Mrs. Tinker's older brother.  He was more than willing to light the K-II meters when asked.  He was very talkative with the spirit box and spent the evening with us.   We tried several times to get his name but he didn't want to give us his name.   At one point we were talking about the history on the place and I made a comment about not remembering a lot of the details about the family.  At this time the Spirit box replied "should".  I said "Did he just say should?  and the spirit boxed said "yes".   This is pretty much how the whole evening went.   He did inform us a niece was there.  We did get a name Jess or Jessica.

Tinker Swiss Cottage is a great place to investigate.  Next time I would love to go back and do a private investigation again.

Michael Wright: This was a public investigation which was split into several groups we were split into teams I was with Marge Sucha we were in the basement in the main cottage.

During every session we had several things occur with each group.

We were using dowsing rods, ghost boxes and various phone apps.

In the first session one of the phone apps said ghost and when the dowsing did not respond to the questions the answers came through the ghost box or phone app. According to the answers we were communicating with both Mrs. Tinkers.

During the second session we asked many of the same questions as the first answers and got the same replies, we also had responses stating that there was a male spirit following one of the guests in the group. The ghost box was giving very clear responses to the questions at the same time the dowsing rods were moving.

In the third session while using the dowsing rod’s we inquired through the rods and found that there several spirits following two of the guests. Again in this session as with the other sessions the rods were replying at the same time as the ghost box, we were also getting separate responses to the questions.

Always enjoy Tinker Swiss there seems to have some type of activity every time I visit there.

Dale Kaczmarek: I was positioned in the Barn and used a Melmeter, REM Epod, digital recorder, digital camera and SLS X-Cam. Several people in various groups thought they heard the latch jiggle on the door which is something that was reported in the past. I and several others heard a knock which sounded like was on a wooden object in the corner. Nobody in any groups were in that area when the noise occurred.

The SLS X-Cam also picked up a “stick figure” on the large support beam closest to the front of the room. The figure was very tall and stayed visible for several minutes. Another “figure” was also seen in between group members after a session when they came to the front to look at the equipment. It wasn’t one of the group members but was clearly in between them.

The Ghost Research Society investigated Tinker Swiss Cottage on April 30, 2016 Team members included: Stan Suho, Jim Piscopo, Marge Sucha, Katherine Meagher, Michael Wright, Chuck Williams and Dale Kaczmarek

Evidence collected:

Great tinker.MPG – while conducting a Ghost Box session in the basement, a question was asked, “Just so I understand, you do not want that person to know you came with them?” The Ghost Box responds with a word that sounds like, “Correct” followed by a clear female voice that says, “Great.”

Great2 tinker.MPG – while conducting a Ghost Box session in the basement, a question was asked, “Was that you making my K-II light up?” The Ghost Box responds in a male voice that says, “Great.”

Help me tinker.MPG – while finishing up an EVP session in the barn, the SLS X-Cam detected a very tall stick figure by the wooden beam near the front of the room. The Ovilus later picks up, “Help me.”

Me tinker.MPG – while conducting session #1 using the Ghost Box in the Barn, a question was asked, “Is there anybody up here?” A high-pitched female voices responds with, “Me.”

Oxygen tinker.MPG – while conducting session #4 using the Ovilus X in the Barn, a question was asked, “What kind of help do you need?” The Ovilus responds with something that sounds like, “Oxygen.”

Perhaps yeah tinker.MPG – while conducting session #1 using the Ovilus X in the Barn, a question was asked, “Is Jessie Dorr here?” The Ghost Box responds immediately with, “Yeah” and “Perhaps” proceeded that response.

Should tinker.MPG – while conducting a Ghost Box session in the basement, a comment was made by Marge about not really knowing a lot of the history, the Ghost Box responds with, “Should.”

Yes tinker.MPG – while conducting a Ghost Box session in the basement, a question was asked, “Is one of the Tinker’s here with us now?” The Ghost Box immediately responds with a male voice that says, “Yes.”

Words produced with the Ovilus X in dictionary mode included:

Session #2: quick, enjoy, has, zinc, save, give, bottom, murder, things and child

Session #3: front and aura

Session #4: hurry, August, communicate, chain, sum, thick, site, done and industry

Conclusions: During sessions #3 and #4 the SLS X-Cam detected a stick figure on the wooden pillar near the front of the room. In the first case, it appeared to be a smaller figure between four to five feet high while in the latter session the figure was much taller and was probably a male presence.

At the beginning of the EVP session for session #1 several people heard and saw the padlock moving on the closet. There were temperature drops within the room during several sessions registered on participant’s equipment. Before we began session #4 a couple of people heard the ding of the elevator however no one was using it at the time.

There was no reasonable explanation for either “stick figure” viewed by the SLS X-Cam because both were see against a non-reflective wooden pillar. Both figures were viewed for several minutes and didn’t seem to be frightened away even though most of the participants in sessions #3 and #4 saw them and indicated that loudly in the room at the time.

Another interesting investigation at Tinker Swiss Cottage however I cannot be sure who the figures represent or even if they were related to the Tinker family. There were some cable malfunctions while using the Ovilus X in dictionary mode with the DTD device, so some of the words spoken were not identified. Even my PSB-11 had its battery drained after the first session. Luckily a participant had the exact same device and lent it for the entire session. That was a very kind gesture and I’m sure that the group appreciated that as well.
